LFW 2017: Padma Lakshmi Makes A Runway Comeback For Tarun Tahiliani
Tarun Tahiliani is one name that has seemingly occupied a safe place in the fashion industry where you aren’t bound to find other sartorial creators unless they’re deemed innovative. A couturier known for his exquisite take on wedding attire, Tahiliani has always interpreted traditional silhouettes in styles unexpected. And it wasn’t any different with this edition of fashion week.
Titled Chashme Shahi, the collection was inspired by what would seem like an ideal Mughal summer amidst the architecture and gardens of the establishment. In a colour palette that ranged from neutrals like ivory and beige, that slowly shifted to greys, jade and black, the designer’s collection witnessed a reinterpretation of jaal work with new graphics. Kalidar lehengas, resort saris, kurtas, sari-gowns and more, this line was clean yet fluid and used the designer’s signature draping methods and embellishments.
Even the menswear had a timeless appeal, despite a modern touch in terms of colour as well as silhouettes.
Supermodel of international status Padma Lakshmi made her official return to the runway with Tahiliani’s collection. While she kickstarted Chashme Shahi with a heavily-embellished ivory sari that was accompanied by a cape, the highlight of the night was her salmon pink brocade lehenga, which featured a shirt for a choli. She made such a stunning showstopper.
