Known for his multi-hued elegant Indian wear, textile revivalist Gaurang Shah challenged himself this time around to an all-white collection. Titled Muslin, Gaurang Shah showcased about 40 ensembles in the non-colour, with a hint of gold and silver or both. The designer’s collection used weaves and techniques from across the country, thus defining the assortment of elements. From chikankari embroidery to Parsi gara work, kota weaves to jamdani, there was something to satiate every kind of desi consumer. Using geometric patterns as well as Mughal motifs on organza, muslin as well as khadi, Gaurang eliminated the doubt that monotones fail to leave an impact as much as vibrant hues do.

In his collection, organza was added not just for its sheer quality but to make the garments look voluminous. The designer also amped up the luxe feel of the outfits by the use of embroidery crafted with Muga and silk threads. Models strut the ramp in a range of well put-together ensembles — a Maheshwari weave anarkali was mixed and matched with chikankari dupatta, outfits using kota and khadi were teamed up with dhakai jamdani dupattas, so on and so forth. An array of ghararas, shararas, anarkalis with lehengas, floor-length kurtas, saris, and more was showcased as part of Gaurang’s collection, with white-on-white being the predominant colour theme.
