Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that boudoir-inspired styles are having a major moment right now and it’s all about lingerie galore this season. While your mother might not approve of these bra-baring looks, it’s the season to reveal your inner wear — in a fashionable way, of course!

The glamorous ensembles on the Spring ’17 runways of Giambattista Valli, Sonia Rykiel and Christian Dior have made it pretty clear that embracing your femininity in the bare sense is in. We know what you’re wondering — showing off one’s foundation garments can be a decidedly tricky proposition, which is why we’re here to show you exactly how to execute this runway look in real life.

Be inconspicuous

Playing peek-a-boo with your hottest lingerie seems like a great way to warm up to the trend before you go all guns blazing. Pull out those sheer blouses and tops because they’re just about to get a sexier update. Lacy triangle and demi bras serve as a great base for diaphanous tops, especially when paired with structured shorts or midi pencil skirts, resulting in a perfectly seductive yet chic mix. When playing trial-error with this look, its always best to let your outer and inner pairings stay under a similar shade spectrum — creams with ivory, black under midnight blue, blush pink under peach, you get the gist?! Try to avoid neon pairings with a lighter coloured blouse unless you plan on sporting it at Miami or Rio de Janeiro.

Power prowl

If you’d like to add this trend to your wardrobe’s repertoire, we’ve got a few suggestions on how to execute the trend flawlessly. First of all, it’s important to remember that your foundation pieces need to be up to par, i.e. they shouldn’t be worn out or have an outdated style. If you prefer more coverage, be sure to take a peak at semi sheer high neck styles or bralettes that end a couple of inches above the high waistline. Get ready to team them with a boyfriend blazer – open cut or buttoned (based on your dare to bare levels), a great high-waisted trouser, pointy pumps and you should be ready to slay at your night out with the girls. If you’re still on the fence about flaunting your intimates in public, here’s an experiment for you — why don’t you try wearing a graphic-print sports bra underneath a bomber and high waisted leggings to test the waters. If the experiment turns out to be a confidence booster, then you’re ready to sport your lacier lingerie, if not, you can always resort to wearing them with sheer tops.

Go bold or go home

If there’s anything the Victoria’ s Secret angels have taught us with their Coachella appearances last month, it’s that wearing your bralettes sans a cover up is the way to go! Now, being a daredevil is easier said than done, but there’s no reason why you can’t flaunt those beautiful intimates deceptively. Think of all those plunging or barely covered necklines you’ve always laid your eyes on but never had the grit to purchase — well, now’s a better excuse than ever to go on and get them, because now you can sport them with your gorgeous bralette peeping through. If a plunging neckline seems too unreasonable a purchase, then why not opt for a tie-up kimono that can put you in charge and help you customize the level of coverage you’d like. Bottom-wear, of course, requires much consideration as well and as a thumb rule, we prefer teaming crop tops or anything that’s too short a top (read: bralettes) with high-waisted bottoms, be it denim cut-offs, skirts or palazzos — unless of course, your abs at par with the VS angels, then, by all means, go ahead and flaunt that belly button.
