Amazon Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017: Sari Splendor At Vogue Sari 24/7
One of the most awaited events on the Indian fashion calendar, the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017, kickstarted on March 15 with handlooms and Indian textiles dominating Day 1. But the one show that clearly stole the limelight was the grand presentation of the Vogue Sari 24/7, an initiative by Vogue to present the favourite Indian drape in all it’s glorified versatility. And with 50 designers on board, including names like Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, Varun Bahl, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Falguni Shane Peacock, Anita Dongre, Sanjay Garg and several others, we did not expect anything less.
Every designer brought forward his signature style to the 9-yard garment offering us a range of textiles, prints, embroideries and palettes to choose from. From Rohit Bal’s embroidered blouses to Varun Bahl’s tiered skirts to Payal Singhal’s metal fringe embellishments, the range seemed endless and we, for one, are certainly not complaining.
Amidst the pretty party range was another twist with dramatic blouses and in the case of Falguni Shane Peacock, the addition of gorgeous saree gowns with the designers’ signature feather embellishments.
But cocktail reception-friendly drapes weren’t all there was to the collection. We also saw some the youthful, fun and everyday versions of the sari that seemed to have embraced the season favourite ankle-dusting length. Summer whites, unstructured layers, interesting drapes and fun belts were also recurring features in the collection.
Spaced between these uber chic and elegant saris that appeal to the contemporary woman, there came a decent dose of quirk by way of futuristic hooded saris and pant saris and dhoti saris and blouse-less saris for the non-conformist lot.
